Over 100 people joined us to watch the critically-acclaimed film The Grand Seduction, enjoying a great night of comedy, film, speakers and prizes.

After arriving and settling in with free popcorn and a drink, our guests had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for some fantastic prizes – including jewelry (generously donated by Mark Lash and Act II) and high-end cosmetic gift baskets. It was great to have our guests support us generously through their raffle purchases, and even better to see a number of them walk away with great prizes![/fusion_text][/two_fifth][three_fifth last=”yes” spacing=”yes” background_color=”” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” background_position=”left top” border_size=”0px” border_color=”” border_style=”” padding=”” class=”” id=””][rev_slider 2014movienight][/three_fifth][fusion_text]Then we had a two wonderful introductions – first from Julie Uger, who spoke about her recent experiences dealing with her cancer journey (now clear for a year!) and second from Don McKellar, the Director of The Grand Seduction who provided a poignant and personal introduction to his film.

The film itself was fantastic. Throughout, the audience was consistently in fits of laughter and there was tremendous applause at the end. The performances were great – with some clear Canadian favourites standing out – and we hope the film is a great success now that it’s been widely released.

As we now move into the summer, we are very excited to bring refreshed energy to our activities. We are looking to build on our historical successes and to continue to actively support our key constituents – young adults (aged 18-35) dealing with cancer.

We have now nearly depleted our stock of Comfort Bags, and anticipate updating and providing more bags to several Toronto hospitals on a continuing basis later this year. Donations like those raised from the Movie Night event will be directed towards this program which allows us to create and distribute eco-friendly comfort bags containing a variety of useful/support items to chemo and radiation patients. Our signature bracelets, symbolizing the three cornerstones of Alli’s Journey – courage, strength and heart – are also available through our website, allisjourney.ca, proceeds from which will also go towards this program and other great ideas we are developing for the future.

Finally, a great big thank you to everyone who took part in the Movie Night – from our Board who pulled the event together, to all our donors and guests who joined us and actively participated throughout. You really help make a difference and we look forward to seeing you at our next event! Thanks also in particular to Julia and Don for taking the time to join us on this special evening – inspiring stories that help bring to life why we try to help in the way we do.

Hope you all stay in touch through allisjourney.ca or on Facebook (www.facebook.com/allisjourney) or Twitter (@AllisJourney) – keep an eye out for our next event, spread the word and keep donating generously![/fusion_text][/fullwidth]
