FAQs

Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?

No.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

There are many options for transport to the event. Cineplex Cinemas Yorkdale is located at the north-east corner of Yorkdale (Hwy 401 and Allen Rd/Dufferin) and is connected to the TTC at Yorkdale Station (on Line 1). There is also ample parking at the mall.

Where can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Kindly contact us via the Event Organizer link below.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Certainly, we appreciate that sometimes plans change and thet you might not be able to attend the event but still wish some to use your ticket. Simply give them the ticket for entry. Each ticket can only be used once and will be scanned at the entrance to the event.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

When purchasing a ticket, you should receive an email with an electronic version of your ticket (including a bar-code). Kindly print this, or bring on your mobile device, for entry to the event. Upon entry, you will be provided with your vouchers for your popcorn and a drink (one each per ticket purchased).

The name on the registration/ticket doesn’t match the attendee. Is that okay?

This is alright as we will simply be tracking the attendees through scanning their tickets upon entry. This does mean however, that copying the tickets is not permissable as once a ticket has been used for entry, a second version of the same ticket will be refused entry.

Toronto, ON: Wednesday, June 9th, 2010 – “A BIG GREAT THANK YOU TO ALL VOLUNTEERS”

Thanks to the combined efforts of top Canadian musical talent, and volunteer members of Alli’s Journey, the charitable organization devoted to Alli Shapiro’s cause has successfully garnered the support from the community through their presence and gracious donations. The evening was a tremendous success, as the impressive line-up of home-grown musicians and vocalists beguiled the crowd with their sultry indie sensations. Along with the performances, the hard working volunteers sold dozens of “Alli-gators” – adorable plush toys, as well as Alli’s Journey beaded bracelets, and specially designed Alli’s Comfort Bags full of quality consumable products such as shampoos, blankets and personal cosmetics.

A brilliant evening with over 400 tickets sold, the the Koerner Hall auditorium was packed and the artists once again delivered unprecedented performances, with Jully Black leading the evening with her urban hits like Sweat of Your Brow from her latest album “The Black Book”. Kelly Lee Evans dazzled the audience with her soul-pop sounds from her newly released album “The Good Girl”; whereas Sophie Milman and Aion Clark conjured up their jazzy and soulful interludes. Blending a more synth-electro sound with an array of vocal harmonies, Ohbijou lured the crowds, while The Rural Alberta Advantage performed songs from their album “Hometowns.’ Aion Clarke’s hot pop/soul and big band classics ignited the stage, as he performed with an entertaining ensemble in their suave big city suits. Dan Mangan engaged the crowd, as they sang along to his “Nice, Nice, Very Nice”, and Evening Hymns performed a piece from Jonas Bonnetta’s new album “Spirit Guides”. Most remarkable was Florence K, who mixed her pop, Bossa Nova, Cuban, and Brazilian rhythms in a piano performance that was beyond mesmerizing.

Alongside the performances, Daniel Schneiderman, a cancer survivor, highlighted the evening with his profound and genuine words, addressing what it means to be a cancer survivor and how the Alli’s Journey organization brought him and others in similar situations, the hope and courage to battle and overcome his condition. Daniel continues to advocate for Alli’s Journey, a one-of-kind, distinct organization which provides resources, education and support for young adults with cancer. No other organization to date has accomplished this much for this select group of cancer patients.

Once again, for the fourth year, ‘Take My Hand’ presented the best in Canadian musical talent at the North York performing arts centre in Toronto on May 27, 2009. The night began with indie upstarts Rock Plaza Central, whose rendition of ‘My Children Be Joyful’ signaled the theme of the night that lasted throughout the nine performances. This was followed with Ian Thomas, Kellylee Evans, Megan Hamilton and Page. Again, the driving force of the night was diversity, as hip-hop, ethereal indie, bedroom folk and jazz classicism took their turns on stage, whisked in and out by comedian Elvira Kurt’s gags. Again it was a triumph, as it has been for four years running. A legacy is forming. Read about the artists and see pictures from the May 2009 concert below!

This year, proceeds from the concert will support new Alli’s Journey comfort bags, as well as a room for young adults in the Wellspring location at Sunnybrook Hospital. Stay tuned to the website for more information!

Another evening of magic was created by a host of hard-working volunteers and performers at the third annual TAKE MY HAND concert, in memory of young cancer patient Alli Shapiro Amar. The passion for Alli and her cause, the young adult cancer patient, was worn on our sleeves through the glowing heart pins sold in support of the cause. Once again, the concert was a corker! On the acoustic side, Dave Borins, violinist Blaise Alleyne, Petet Katz and Matthew Barber thrilled the audience. On the electric side, living legend Jackie Richardson returned to sing her soul to a tribute song to Alli, written by David Warrack. Grand Analog blended hip-hop, electronica and all-things-weird for an eccentric performance. Elvira Kurt made us laugh and Cynthia Dale, David Warrack and The George Randolph Academy Choir rekindled memories of Stratford and conjured up deep, incisive choral bliss. Kellylee Evans won our hearts with her vibrant style. It was a brilliant evening of which Alli would have been proud.

Proceeds from this 2008 event went to Gilda’s Club, Toronto, and Young Adult Cancer Canada.
