Alli’s Journey is hosting our second annual Improv Night fundraiser at Second City on August 21st, 7pm, and we would love to see you there. Improv comedy is comedy that’s improvised before your very eyes, based on audience suggestions and answers given to our performers. Last year’s had people absolutely in stitches and we bet this year’s will be the same. Love to laugh? Come on out!

Early bird tickets are available now!

The Improv Night fundraiser goes to support our Comfort Bags initiative. These are bags of products and resources given to young people (18-35) undergoing cancer treatment. The items are selected based on feedback and iteration with an eye to providing comfort and pleasure during the difficult period of cancer treatment. Your collective support at this event will allow us to produce dozens and dozens more comfort bags.

Finally, please note that this event is at the Second City Training Centre’s John Candy Box Theatre – not the main stage on Mercer St., but just around the corner from it, above Wayne Gretzky’s: 99 Blue Jays Way, Toronto, ON M5V 9G9.

Alli’s Journey is a charity whose mission is to support Toronto’s young adults with cancer population through the production of Comfort Bags. We work with Gilda’s Club and Princess Margaret Hospital to get these bags into the hands of the people who need them: young adults undergoing cancer treatment. Join us for a night of improv featuring members of Toronto’s improv community, and support a worthy cause with your LOLs.

Tickets: $20 general admission (currently $15 with the early bird discount!)/$15 for Second City Training Centre students with a valid card

As a follow up to our successful Movie Night event last year, Alli’s Journey is excited to announce the 2015 edition, with an outstanding event at the end of September: a screening of the critically-acclaimed thriller,  Sicario, shortly after it’s North American premiere at TIFF.

Sicario is a crime thriller, starring Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin and Jon Bernthal.  Directed by Canadian Denis Villeneuve, Sicario was selected to compete for the Palme D’Or at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival

Mark Wednesday September 30th in your calendars and purchase your tickets now!  Each ticket is $40 and includes the film, a popcorn and drink and an official tax receipt for $20. We are also planning to have a keynote guest speaker, hold a raffle for great prizes and more!

Proceeds from ticket sales and additional purchases will go towards our Comfort Bag program as well as other, new and exciting initiatives. There are a limited number of seats available, so be sure to get them as soon as you can.

For those of you who may be unable to join (whether our local or international friends), your generosity through donations would also be greatly appreciated either via the Alli’s Journey main page or directly via Canada Helps.  All donations are eligible for an official Canada Revenue tax receipt in the full donated amount.

Alli’s Journey presents an advance screening of the critically acclaimed film The Grand Seduction. The latest film from Canadian director Don McKellar, which previewed at TIFF 2013. Screening to be held in Empress Walk Theatres at 5095 Yonge Street.

Ticket price ($40) includes admission, popcorn, drink and $20 official tax receipt. You can buy your tickets through Eventbrite.

Thanks to the combined efforts of top Canadian musical talent, and volunteer members of Alli’s Journey, the charitable organization devoted to Alli Shapiro’s cause has successfully garnered the support from the community through their presence and gracious donations. The evening was a tremendous success, as the impressive line-up of home-grown musicians and vocalists beguiled the crowd with their sultry indie sensations. Along with the performances, the hard working volunteers sold dozens of “Alli-gators” – adorable plush toys, as well as Alli’s Journey beaded bracelets, and specially designed Alli’s Comfort Bags full of quality consumable products such as shampoos, blankets and personal cosmetics.

A brilliant evening with over 400 tickets sold, the the Koerner Hall auditorium was packed and the artists once again delivered unprecedented performances, with Jully Black leading the evening with her urban hits like Sweat of Your Brow from her latest album “The Black Book”. Kelly Lee Evans dazzled the audience with her soul-pop sounds from her newly released album “The Good Girl”; whereas Sophie Milman and Aion Clark conjured up their jazzy and soulful interludes. Blending a more synth-electro sound with an array of vocal harmonies,  Ohbijou lured the crowds, while The Rural Alberta Advantage performed songs from their album “Hometowns.’ Aion Clarke’s hot pop/soul and big band classics ignited the stage, as he performed with an entertaining ensemble in their suave big city suits. Dan Mangan engaged the crowd, as they sang along to his “Nice, Nice, Very Nice”, and Evening Hymns performed a piece from Jonas Bonnetta’s new album “Spirit Guides”. Most remarkable was Florence K, who mixed her pop, Bossa Nova, Cuban, and Brazilian rhythms in a piano performance that was beyond mesmerizing.

Alongside the performances,  Daniel Schneiderman, a cancer survivor, highlighted the evening with his profound and genuine words, addressing what it means to be a cancer survivor and how the Alli’s Journey organization brought him and others in similar situations, the hope and courage to battle and overcome his condition. Daniel continues to advocate for Alli’s Journey, a one-of-kind, distinct organization which provides resources, education and support for young adults with cancer. No other organization to date has accomplished this much for this select group of cancer patients.
