Sicario, which screens at TIFF and has a 90% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, is racking up great reviews, including this one from Liz Braun of The Toronto Sun:
The movie’s big surprise is Emily Blunt, completely convincing as an experienced FBI agent who works hard to mask her vulnerabilities and almost succeeds. Her naivete about America’s ‘war on drugs’ and her awakening to the realities of the world outside her country’s borders add a political element to the story that is both chilling and timely. Above all, Sicario is a great yarn. It’s been deemed award-worthy since the beginning (the film was nominated for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival last spring) and will no doubt be a contender at the Academy Awards in February.
